Resume: The project proposes to conclude the "Morphological Atlas of the Portuguese City" in its last stage, which consists of the approach to the "building". Through this project it will be possible, for the first time, to realise an articulated approach between all the components of the urban fabric having as object of study the Portuguese city. The work aims to constitute a typological framework of the built environment based on the characterisation of selected cases, represented and described in an identical and comparable way from drawings; photographs and texts. Sorted through three theoretical categories – Programme, Context, Time – organize territory mapping and the selection of 120 Buildings. These buildings are selected according to representative criteria that consider the different architectural programmes, the country geographic characteristics; the typical compositions principles of some historical periods, as well, the evolutionary process phases, when buildings are the result of a metabolic process of transformations through the time.

Sample: The city of Lisbon is presented as an example of the kind of work that this project proposes to carry out.
